Center profile

Center for Engineering Materials and Reliability (CEMAR) belongs to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) - a highly international research university devoted to science, engineering, management, humanity and other fields. Since its official opening in October 1991, HKUST has gathered talents in all fields from around the world and established an excellent team of training-researching teachers since its foundation. HKUST has developed to be a famous university in Asia, even all over the world, won the first prize of QS Asian University Rankings three years in a row after development of 20 year, which is praised as a miracle in the history of international higher education.


In order to transfer the outstanding research achievements of HKUST to industrial application quickly, HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute (FTYRI) established in Nansha New Area, Guangzhou in 2007 by donation of The Fok Ying Tung Foundation (FYTF). FYTRI is the only technology transfer platform of HKUST in mainland China.


As one of the pioneer centers in FYTRI, CEMAR consists of globally reputable professors from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dept and Chemical Engineering and Biomolecular Engineering Dept of HKUST active in the fields of materials and microelectronics research and the research and development team led by them. Over the years, CEMAR has established solid relationships with numerous universities, research institutes and multinational enterprises, and CEMAR is widely recognized and receives outstanding reputation both inChinaand abroad. Presently, CEMAR mainly focuses on research and exploration of novel materials and microelectronics packaging.
